Bernie has trained in martial arts nearly all of his adult life, studying Shotokan Karate and BoQic Kung Fu, happening upon Tai Chi almost by accident. Being drawn to the philosophical nature of martial arts Bernie initially started to learn Tai Chi under the 'Lee Family' system, then moving to the 'Yang' style studying both at the same time. By very good fortune Bob was running a class locally, where Bernie decided to investigate and then 'all the penny's started to drop'. Bob made absolute clarity in his explanations of Tai Chi Chuan and demystified the subject that Bernies two previous instructors had managed to accomplish. Bernie from that point never returned to either of his previous Tai Chi teachers, remaining as a student under  Dan Docherty.
Having attended international Tai Chi Chuan courses, seminars, workshops, and instructor training camps Bernie has become adept in Tai Chi Chuan. He has been teaching Tai Chi Chuan in Kettering for three years and competes at pushing hands at national level. In his approach to teaching he has Dan to thank, for developing a patient, but thorough method of imparting knowledge to students in a way that builds confidence but at the same time in an enjoyable manner.

From a very early age John Baker has always enjoyed playing sport and physical activities. His days at school were spent playing football, cricket, rugby and athletics. When he went to university he started his martial arts journey by taking up the Korean martial art of Tae Kwon Do, which he practiced for 5 years. His interests have now turned to the Chinese internal art of tai chi chuan which he has been studying and practicing for about 8 years.
